Sheilla Tavares de Castro was born on July 1st, 1983, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Her first experiences with volleyball were at an early age, at physical education classes and after a short time Sheilla was already playing for her school team.
“It was very funny and unexpected. I’ve always liked playing it and always played for pleasure. I had a lot of friends who played and some of them were great at it! One day the school’s coach asked me to be a part of the team...”
Not long afterwards, the prizes started to be awarded. There were countless victories since then.
However, volleyball was just a game until she was 13 years old. At that age, encouraged by school’s coach, Olyntho, she tried out for Mackenzie Esporte Clube. This team coaches, Jamison and Célio, got interested and gave that shy and smiley girl a one-lifetime chance.
“I still have no clue of what goes on the minds of the professionals who coach these junior categories (laughs). They start with very young girls. They train a bunch of people, so after a few years they can watch our games on TV. They really do bet. This is a beautiful work of dedication. Coaches, especially juniors, make our careers their own personal victories. I am very grateful for the opportunity...”
